So this is really about how we can do a self check and review to look at how much news we are ingesting and whether or not it’s good for us?
Of course, it’s natural to want to know what is going on in the world but often it’s the bad stuff that is reported only and therefore we may be getting a very unbalanced perspective of what is actually going on in the world.
Headlines of course are written to grab people’s attention and therefore use words that sometimes tend to sensationalise or exaggerate. I do also recognise that this is not always the case and there are things that are disastrous, critical and horrendous. There are countless news items that absolutely need to be reported on.
But it can all combine to weigh us down and contribute to feelings of hopelessness, powerless and huge waves of emotions. It’s easy to feel overloaded with the amount of incoming information in the world we live in.
My tip really is to actively seek out other news stories that are more positive and may not be reported in the main media, but also just review how much information you are exposing yourself to each day, whether that be through TV, social media, radio or otherwise.
Be selective and choose the ones that you feel are important and meaningful.
One of the websites I’m signed up to (and there may be others like this), is The Smiley Movement (https:\\smileymovement.org) reporting really interesting news stories that warm the heart a bit more.
So have a little self-check in and make any changes, however small, that will help to lift your mood.
Take care All,
Anna
